Competency Assessment Introduction

The Right Mindset for Assessing Competencies

Nobody demonstrates all competencies at a consistently high level. People have strengths, weaknesses and attributes that need developing. The most effective people adopt an approach to their work which develops the strengths, manages the weaknesses and enhances areas in need of improvement.

Consider the individual's behaviour in a range of settings: e.g. with peers, subordinates, their manager, customers, in teams etc.

Consider how they applied judgement in picking up or shelving issues as they arose.  How they organised their work; how they performed when under pressure, or alternately, when there was no pressure or direct guidance.

There are a number of methods which can be employed to assess competencie and some examples are provided in this website's menu.

As indicated in the left hand menu, we have provided examples of Behavioural Interviewing and Thinking competence. Examples of other competencies will be
developed in this website.
